RCA READIES SUITE OF PRODUCTS TO COMPLETE
DIGITAL BROADCAST TV TRANSITION

New Products Ease Worries for Time Shifters, Analog TV Owners, and Road Warriors

LAS VEGAS, January 8, 2007 – With the transition to full digital broadcasting now just 24 months away in the United States, RCA is introducing a number of innovative and affordable solutions to insure that all types of TV viewers will be fully equipped for the end of analog broadcasting and the completion of the digital TV transition. Three new RCA products introduced this week at the Consumer Electronics Show will insure that consumers can continue to enjoy their favorite programs – at home and on the go – as American broadcasters prepare to turn off analog signals and convert totally to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting.

RCA’s Full Recording Solution

Making the transition in 2007 is a new RCA combo DVD recorder. Model DRC8335 features both analog and digital TV tuners for over-the-air reception, providing a crystal clear picture and more channels than DVD recorders that only record analog TV programming or don’t have the ability to tune any channels. The DRC8335 is a full-function VCR and DVD recorder. It can record standard analog cable TV, analog broadcast TV, and digital broadcast TV with its built-in twin-tuner NTSC/ATSC design. The combo unit also works easily with set-top boxes that bring digital cable and satellite signals into a home, allowing for easy time shifting and enjoyment of favorite programs after they are broadcast. The RCA DRC8335 is truly a full recording solution.

Available in April at a suggested retail price of $249.99, the DRC8335 also features one-touch copy control to easily archive home movies from VHS to recordable DVD. The device records on multiple disc formats (DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW) and also includes a DV-in port for direct control and recording from most digital camcorders.

And the DRC8335 is equipped with the family-friendly “TV Guardian,” a foul language filter that automatically detects and mutes offensive language on playback.

RCA Converts Digital TV for the Analog Set

Designed for consumers who have a favorite analog TV, or perhaps one built into a custom-made cabinet, RCA introduces a new Digital TV Adapter that easily receives terrestrially broadcast digital TV signals and converts them for display on a conventional analog TV.

With the Consumer Electronics Association estimating that more than 20 million analog televisions rely on terrestrial signals for local channel reception, the RCA DTA800 Digital TV Adapter will play an important role in the completion of the digital TV transition.

Designed to easily receive over-the-air ATSC standard-definition and high-definition terrestrial broadcasts, the DTA800 will come equipped with a remote control unit and the ability to provide on-screen program information sent by local TV broadcasters to easily identify details about TV programming. The DTA800 is designed solely to receive digital TV signals with an over-the-air antenna and will convert those signals into analog for display through a TV set’s analog connections.

Available for purchase in 2007, the DTA800 anticipates a market of several million Digital TV Adapters expected to be necessary by February 17, 2009. Analog TV broadcasting is scheduled to be turned off on that date, and the RCA DTA800 will be the ideal resource for consumers who want to keep watching their old set – either in the main entertainment room or another room in the home.

Smaller than a deck of playing cards and weighing less than 2 ounces — the package includes a removable cover with a docking station/stand for permanent or semi-permanent desktop installations where you want to be able to quickly connect and disconnect the tuner without having to fiddle with cables. A high-gain reception antenna is also included.

Designed for everyday laptop computers, the MPC4000 is compatible with PCs that have a minimum processor speed of 1.5 GHz and only 256MB of RAM. It employs a high-speed USB 2.0 connection and supports Dolby Digital sound, video resolutions up to 1920 x1080 (1080i).

The RCA MPC4000 Laptop Teleceiver will be available in April at a suggested retail price of $199.
